The Plot

The Good Lie begins in Sudan, where a group of young boys are forced to flee their homes during the Second Sudanese Civil War. The boys travel for months, eventually making their way to a refugee camp in Kenya. They spend years in the camp, waiting for a chance to be resettled in a new country.

Finally, the boys are given the opportunity to resettle in the United States. They are placed in a foster home in Kansas City, Missouri, and they begin to adjust to their new lives. However, they soon realize that life in the United States is not as easy as they had hoped. They struggle to learn English, they are bullied at school, and they miss their families.

Despite the challenges they face, the boys never give up hope. They work hard to learn English, they make friends, and they eventually find success in their new lives. The film ends with the boys graduating from college and starting their own families.

The Characters

The Good Lie features a cast of talented actors who bring the characters to life. Reese Witherspoon plays Carrie Davis, a social worker who helps the boys adjust to their new lives in the United States. Corey Stoll plays Jack Randa, a former Marine who becomes the boys' foster father. Sarah Baker plays Maggie Davis, Jack's wife. And Arnold Oceng plays Mamere, one of the boys who is resettled in the United States.

The four main characters in The Good Lie are all incredibly well-developed and their stories are both heartbreaking and inspiring. Witherspoon gives a standout performance as Carrie Davis, a woman who is dedicated to helping the boys succeed. Stoll is also excellent as Jack Randa, a man who is struggling to deal with his own demons but who ultimately becomes a loving and supportive father to the boys. Baker is equally good as Maggie Davis, a woman who welcomes the boys into her home and treats them as her own children. And Oceng gives a breakout performance as Mamere, a young man who is determined to make a better life for himself and his family.
